Bharata Kalakshetram, Kalakshetra

Originally designed by Shri Appukuttan Nair who had tremendous knowledge about traditional architecture in Kerala, the Bharata Kalakshetram, with its two-tiered facade, is a theatre in the Kalakshetra campus. The project, initially taken up after a controversy, mainly aimed at upgrading the theatre for contemporary use. The serpentine profile of the ‘charupadi’ in dark and light shades of timber add a visually interesting element in the facade.
