This was a get-together of 31 masons, carpenters and painters who have worked with me from 1987 (after I finished my Masters from York University, UK) to 1995-96, when I shifted to Chennai. It was quite an emotional moment for most of us since some of us were meeting after 20-25 years. Many have become grandfathers and have become contractors. Their children are bank officers, doctors and engineers working in India and abroad. For me, I have learnt a lot from these colleagues, we were like a family, ate the food they cooked and even slept in the workers shed many times. I owe a lot of my career to these friends of mine and they never used to call me “Sir”. Many were older than me and they used to call me by name, while others called me “Mash” which is a Malayalam word used to address the teachers. Suresh K Kollam took the leadership to make this meeting happen. This team under the leadership of Ravi and Suresh had built the houses of many of my facebook friends too. Sajan Gopalan, Alagappan Narayan, Ekbal Bappukunju, Kavumpurathu Thankappan, Mammootty, Rubin DCruz, Jay Nair, Annu Koshy, DakshinaChitra etc. We have now decided to meet every year.
