Kerala is preparing for a journey in the Spice Route. Silk Route initiated by China is quite famous. The Government of Kerala started the initiative in 2010 along with UNESCO. Muziris Heritage Project has sown the seeds of this initiative. There was a meeting in New Delhi in March, 2011 jointly organised by the UNESCO and the Government of Kerala.

Spice Route Initiatives are supported generously by the Netherlands Embassy and UNESCO. With the initiatives taken by the Netherlands Embassy, a two day International Spice Colloquium was organised in Kochi last week. The present ambassador His Excellency Alexander Stoelinga, Hon'ble Tourism Minister Sri Kadakampally Surendran, Honorable Finance Minister Dr. Thomas Issac and representatives from Belgium, France and Sri Lanka attended the two day workshop. I gave a talk on the Spice Route Initiatives of the Government of Kerala. Prof Paul Meurs, Conservation Architect from Netherlands and Program Director, Shared Heritage Jinna Smit also shared the Netherlands experience. It was decided to hold a bigger international seminar in Kochi during 2019 March. Prof. Michael Tharakan and Prof. Veluthattu Kesavan will be coordinating the workshop.
