COMMUNAL HARMONY IN KOTTAYIL KOVILAKAM

September 27, 2015

Kottayil Kovilakam, a village on the banks of Periyar, has become a heritage site as part of the Muziris Heritage Project. It revels in its rich history and monuments. In about 1 km radius in Kottayil Kovilakam, there is the Sreekrishna Temple, a Holy Cross Church, a Mosque (which has been rebuilt) and a Jewish Synagogue. These religious monuments in such close proximity portray secular culture and communal harmony of Kerala. This is truly an unusual but positive sight to see.

The Kerala Postal Circle celebrated this long tradition of communal harmony of Kerala through a cover illustration of these buildings on a post cover issued on the last Indian Postal Day.

The post cover was sent to us by Mr. Leego George Kodiyan.
