SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE - POST 10 - CRITERIA 2

February 16, 2020

Conservation of Energy and Resources

The architecture should use less energy materials and renewable materials. Steel, aluminium and cement are very high energy intensive materials. Generally less energy intensive techniques and materials such as lime, earth, athangudi tiles, timber, bamboo etc. are more labour intensive. In a country like India, where cheap labour is available, those techniques can be used. This will have the dual advantage of reducing construction related carbon dioxide emission as well as generating employment.
