Is the Glory of Chengannur Pottery Fading? - A Conversation With Traditional Potter B. K. Unni

This video depicts the life of B. K. Unni, who is one of the last standing potters in the eighty potter families that once flourished in the communities of Umayattukara and Eramallikkara in Chengannur, Alappuzha, Kerala. He lives in a small hut with a workshop space, with his wife making pots for a living and not giving up on his cultural background. We see Unni making earthenware using a handspun pottery wheel because he can’t afford to upgrade his machinery or buy terracotta clay to suit the market's needs. Dr. Benny Kuriakose asks him important questions to better understand him and the situation of the Potters in Chengannur.
