The Muziris Restoration Project's purpose and characteristics are elaborated in the article by K.P.M. Basheer that appears in The Hindu. The historical and archaeological information from the Muziris Heritage Site provides proof that Muziris formerly included a number of different geographic entities. The project entails maintaining these historical structures and monuments as well as restoring old bazaars, roads, canals, and bridges and connecting them to other tourist circuits. According to Mr. Benny Kuriakose, the chief project consultant, a visitor or scholar would experience a "walkthrough of 2000 years of Kerala's history and culture" by taking the trip. He noted that a crucial part of the project will be the archaeological digs at Pattanam, which will provide proof of the region's extensive history and its connections to ancient Europe, West Asia, and Africa.
The project would be executed with the participation of local people and panchayats. In order to give the locals a stake in the preservation and development of the tourist circuit, a lot of public facilities and infrastructure will be built in the six panchayats and two towns. When finished, the Muziris site will be a top-notch heritage-tourist destination with close linkages to the neighbourhood economies. It is not just a tourist project and it will be unique in its conception, execution, funding, and sustainability.
