"An article written by Benny Kuriakose and Rubin D’Cruz throws light on the concept and aims of the Muziris Heritage Project. The history of Muziris, an active port in the 1st century BC in the Ernakulam and Thrissur districts of Kerala, is outlined in the article.
The Muziris Heritage Project focuses on preserving the cultural heritage of the region through historical research, archaeological excavations, integrated heritage conservation, and tourism development. It aims to provide public access to historic buildings and sites within the framework of a public-private partnership model. Heritage management and tourism can be integrated to create an outstanding product with mutual benefits.
The Muziris Heritage Project has been declared the first green project endorsed by the Kerala government. Muziris is a symbol of communal harmony, where the Jews,Christians, Hindus, and Muslims lived peacefully for centuries. With the conservation of heritage being the primary objective of the project, it is being explored how heritage can be linked with development, which will benefit the local community. It aims to make a big difference in conservation, restoration, the study of history, the environment ,research, development of arts and crafts, occupations and other community activities.
