Cheraman Masjid Restoration Inauguration - Invitation

An Invitation to the Inauguration of the Restoration of Cheraman Masjid to be done by the Hon'ble Governor of Kerala, Sri Arif Mohammed Khan. Located in Kodungallur, in the district of Thrissur in Kerala, the Cheraman Juma Masjid is believed to be the first mosque built in India in 629 AD. Muziris Heritage Projects Ltd will reconstruct the former character and beauty of this famous masjid while keeping in mind its legacy.

Muziris Projects has an impressive list of museums and monuments to its credit, all of which try to showcase an era of trade and cultural significance in the history of Kerala. The Project is delighted to embark upon yet another venture in the restoration and conservation of heritage. Located in Kodungallur, in the district of Thrissur in Kerala, the Cheraman Juma Masjid is believed to be the first mosque built in India, in 629 AD. Keeping in mind the legacy of this famed mosque, Muziris Projects Ltd will recreate its former character and aesthetics.

The Hon'ble Governor of Kerala, Shri Arif Mohammed Khan, will formally inaugurate this restoration work in a proud ceremony on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 4 pm, in the Cheraman Juma Masjid. Dr. T.M. Thomas Isaac, Hon’ble Minister of Finance, Govt of Kerala, will deliver the keynote address. Benny Kuriakose designed and planned the masjid's restoration. The invitation comes after a six-year wait for the design to be completed.
