Simply Chennai, an initiative from 'India Today' takes a look inside the finest and most stylish celebrity homes in the city. This time it featured a refurbished version of a 40-year-old house belonging to Satyajit’s parents, the legendary dancer couple VP and Shanta Dhananjayan, set up in Adyar. Satyajit, a professional photographer and Anupama put their collective creative instincts to use and were aided by Benny Kuriakose’s design sense and conservation knowledge.
“Three years ago, we felt the need for a new house, with state-of-the-art facilities and ample space. The house has a lot of sentimental value for us. So, we decided to add instead of demolish,” says Satyajit, when asked about the inception of the project. This creative home design can be categorised as an ancestral home renovation as it reflects his unconventional aesthetics with subtle asymmetrical lighting points, classy wooden furniture and earthly athangudi tiles, which help keep the house warm during the winter and cool during the summer. Thus, it has been remodelled based on conservation principles, but with an awareness of the needs of the current generations.
