The article featured in Design Today showcases the Wayanad vacation house, a timber structure resting among the lush green lands and hills of Wayanad. The eco-friendly residential project is one of Dr Benny Kuriakose’s favourite works. Awestruck by the site, Benny Kuriakose ensured that the design of the vacation house in Wayanad would optimize the remarkable views that the surrounding landscapes offered. A coffee estate situated on a steep slope, the site accommodated a two-bedroom house to serve as a vacation home for his client residing in the neighbouring district of Kozhikode.
The article title “Wooden Haven” describes the home as “In Wayanad, Kerala, architect Benny Kuriakose designs a vacation home balancing expansive views and luxurious interiors, making abundant use of locally sourced timber. Although contemporary in appearance, traditional techniques were employed to craft the timber elements. An evocative combination of wood and glass, this contemporary home strikes a supple balance with tradition.” Read the article to find out more about the design process, the materials used, and the challenges faced during the project.
